Thank you Taman Tugu for giving us the opportunity to share about ‘How to Ride Safe in the City?’ on your Eco Day. This was held 22 Sept 2018 during your soft launch of your park. This park is located in the same vicinity as the National Monument in Lake Gardens. During the guided walk on 22 Sept 2018, the guide shared that the whole area was formerly an illegal construction dumpsite/ drug-den cum abandoned secondary forest. They revived it and cleaned it up. Just about 15 % of the trails are open but all the trails will be fully open by next year. For now, the current trail opened to the public is 2.2 km. On 22 Sept 2018, about 850 people came and joined the launch.
The Taman Tugu park is located to the north of Taman Botani Perdana with Tugu Negara in the south-west, Padang Merbok in the south-east and Bank Negara’s Lanai Kijang to the east of the site. The site is contiguous with Taman Botani Perdana separated only by Jalan Parlimen and can be seen as an expansion of that green space.
The intent is for the Taman Tugu park to be an urban forest for various communities. It will complement the beautifully manicured Taman Botani Perdana by allowing people from all walks of life an opportunity to experience a green space which is more rustic and forest like.
