Took my dog on my basket to the KL Car Free Morning today. We were shooed away as no dogs allowed to ride on my basket. We had breakfast at the earliest hawker food stalls opened at Petaling Street.
Off we went to some hilly ride. We started 9.30am and the aim was to ride till the waterfall Sungai Tekala. We knew we could not enter the waterfall park as no pets (dogs) allowed but we would like to ride till there.
It was 22km one way. We stopped by the Semenyih dam for photographs, some eco farm, talked to the oeprator and stopped by a plant nursery. They sold herbs, Gaharu, Kapur and dipterocarp trees. Wished I could have bought and bring back some but my basket had Max. Next round. As we cycled, we had stares, giggles and passerbys raised an eyebrow or two at our ‘chaaffeured’ dog. The aborigines who lives along the stretch of road on the way to Sungai Tekala said hello to my dog and said he looked like a teddy bear. Afterall, Max resembles a sheep with curly long fur. After not too long, around 11 am, we could see Max getting tired so we gave him some water to hydrate. He was feeling the pinch of the basket holes. We placed a cardboard so his feet did not feel the pinch. He fell after a short distance of placing the cardboard. He fidgeted and stand on the basket and jumped off the basket. We found that it was too thick. We adjusted the cardboard, made it thinner. After that, Max was alright again. He yelped after he fell out. Limped slightly but he was back to himself after some rounds of running.
We reached Sungai Tekala and had lunch. It was exactly noon and most road bikers had already speed down finished their ride. We escaped the cyclists crowd but it was busy. People picnicking with their mats and baskets. After lunch, the Malay ladies who were operating the food stalls said ‘goodbye’ to Max. They were impressed how well behaved Max was in the basket. We reached about 19km and cooled off with the roadside waterfall. Water was cold and goes down your spine but it was smashing! We coaxed Max to come into the water but he was reluctant. We decided to leave him and enjoyed our waterfall and later coaxed him again. This time, he slowly joined us after seeing how much fun we are having. He dipped in the cool water and waddled in.
We reached where we started exactly 2 pm. Scorching from heat, we cooled down with some cold barley drink. Despite an early puncture tire, rather late start, driven away from KL Car Free Morning, we decided this was a great getaway from the city.
