Who are the Ninth God? They are the Chinese version of Robin Hood. They robbed the rich and fed the poor people during Ming dynasty Fujian province. Fujian people flock to SEA for tin mining and practice this Taoist ritual. They are the reincarnations of the 9 sons of Goddess Douwu ( 斗母) . They rob the rich & fed the poor. They got executed by the Ming emperor and their heads were placed inside urns and thrown into the sea. Hence, the association with river and water. Now, when they “invite” or “send off” the 9 emperors, they need to do it by the seaside or riverside.
I went on the 6th day ie 25/10/2017 and got to witnessed the feeding of the generals’ armies. 300 buckets of vegetarian meal was cooked by devotee volunteers.
