Visited Sungai Petani over the Raya holidays.Drove from Ipoh to Sungai Petani.
Visited Sungai Batu, an ancient archaeological site and Tanjung Dawai, a mangrove close to the mouth of the sea. Sunset was beautiful as expected. We had dinner at Tanjung Dawai. Unfortunately, there was only one restaurant open.
We waited for sometime for our order. On the way back, we were greeted with traffic congestion.
The next morning, we visited Sungai Batu. Here, we did a guided walk for an hour and 30 minutes. We were told there were 4 functions of the jetty site.
- For religious worship
- jetty
- warehouse storage
- iron smelting
The archaeological site of Sungai Batu is said to be the oldest in Southeast Asia. It dates back to 3 AD. Older than Angkor Wat and Borobudur.
